Growing up, one of our traditions was a “girls baking night” and when I tell you it was my favorite night of all the holidays I’m not lying!!! A house full of my aunts and cousins all running around to different stations doing different things, laughing, and eating all the “mess ups” – a tradition I want so badly to continue, no matter where in the world I’m living! These recipes are SO extremely basic, and you’ll probably laugh. But they are STAPLES and MUST HAVES so really, you’ll be happy with these holiday cookie recipes!
Baking is SUCH a staple when it comes to the holiday season, you cannot argue that! Whether you actually bake it yourself, or just simply pick up items at your local bakery/small business owner!
* Speaking of small business owner, if you’re in the Cincinnati, Ohio area – Whipped & Stitched is hands down the most INCREDIBLE small business to work with! For any occasion, get her booked!! I cannot say enough amazing things about her and the taste of her products (omg!) HIGHLY recommend!
Okay, back to the goods. Baking is just where it’s at! Have you ever felt like you have SOOO many people on your gift list? Like neighbors, teachers, coworkers, housecleaner, nanny, ETC! SIMPLE. Get together with your favorite people and just go at it!! Then when all the goods are made, create little goodie bags with all the yummy items and you are now everyones favorite gift giver. JUST SAYIN’!
Growing up, our neighbors were our best friends (still are, hey Courtney!) and as the kids exchanged little gifts, our mothers exchanged baking platters. Her mom though was and still is the modern day Betty Crocker & Martha Stewert mixed in one 😛 and her platters were AMAZING! Quick true story, the first year us girls were away at school our moms stopped doing the platters and I remember it like yesterday my dad saying “jeez Kelli is slacking, we haven’t gotten our cookies this year”! DEAD. (no one thought to warn him the platters were no longer happening!!) I don’t think Kelli has missed a Christmas since HAHA!
OKAY OKAY, SORRY! ONTO THE GOOD STUFF!!!
my 5 favorite holiday cookie recipes
peppermint bark
Are you kidding with how goooooooood peppermint bark is! Ugh yum! This is my my favorite to MAKE because there is ZEROOOO baking involved!! No joke – just melting, stirring, pouring and crushing! It’s PERFECT!
hershey kiss cookies
If you don’t know the iconic Hershey kiss cookie, “WHAT?” is all I have to say (cough cough, my husband) These were a staple for baking at my grandmas house and they are just sooo good! SO EASY too, and that’s saying something considering I cannnnnot bake!
gingerbread cookies
A Christmas classic for sure, but I Ioveee gingerbread cookies so it’s my favorite to make around this time! I have not actually made this exact recipe ^ but I feel like they all are about the same, unless you play around with it and come up with a secret ingredient 😛 PLUS her blog post comes with a video and sine that’s what we are all about these days, it’s perfect! And of course, if all else fails, the pre made/ pre cut cookie dough is the way to go!! *me lol
chocolate chip cookies
An extreme classic, duh. But you can never go wrong with them. Ever. To add a little more “holiday” to them, green and red holiday M&M’s are the way to go. YUM! Warning, this recipe I’m about to share makes 3-4 DOZEN!! It’s by far my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe and this is PERFECT for the holidays if you’re wanting to make a big batch! For a smaller batch, use this one 😛
oreo balls
I usually make these into actual balls and cover them with white chocolate and add a few frosting stripes and sprinkles etc. But I came across this super cute way to shape and decorate them that I had to share with you all. Again, this one is PERFECT for the non bakers! It’s another crush, mix, melt, and chill recipe = SCORE!!
I have very much noticed, after writing this post, that they are not all holiday cookie recipes – and really just holiday treat recipes HAHA but you get the picture!!
