I can’t even begin to imagine a life without a skin care routine – it’s something I look forward to every morning (along with my coffee of course) and every night! If you know me personally, you know I don’t go overnight without it – ever.
I know you’re all with me when I say taking your make up off is equivalent to taking your bra off at the end of a long day! amiright ?! 😛
Now, when I say every morning and every night … I mean every morning … and every night – always. I’m a little crazy when it comes to my skin care and as OCD as it sounds to some people, I’m okay with it 😉
before I dive in to my skin care routine
I want to start by saying ~ W A T E R ~ drink lots and lots of water!
And of course, watching what you eat! “YoU aRe WhAt YoU eAt” right?! Check out my recent guest post about all things healthy snacks if you’re looking for some informative tips!!
1.) rinse your face
If I have makeup on my face, I’ll use a makeup wipe to remove it …
*TIMEOUT* yeah, already LOL – I’ve heard amazing things about this thing called a makeup eraser?!?! Like am I late to the party? Are y’all doing this already? I’ll have to jump the bandwagon with that one ASAP because I’m all for a reusable product – BUT FOR NOW….
I then use this cleansing water on a cotton pad to get any excess dirt or makeup off that I missed!
If I’m not wearing makeup (which is more days than I am) I just use the cleansing water to remove any dirt from the night/day!
If you only take one thing from this post and apply it to your daily routine LET IT BE THIS STEP!
It really is amazing to see what accumulates on the surface of your face from morning to night!
These products are amazing because they are not at all expensive and can be found at any drugstore or marketplace for the most part – yet they are key products in my skin care routine … I would not be able to get by (or move to step two) without them, that’s for sure.

2.) cleanser
This, for me, is easiest and best to use while in the shower! Simply massage the cream in a circle like motion all throughout your face – I like to go down my chin and neck as well. (fun tip: also rub UP and never down!)
I always leave this on for the duration of my shampoo and conditioner rinses, but if I’m doing it outside of the shower I would say a minute or so!
This age minimizing cleanser comes in two skin type options, Normal/Dry & Combination Oily. I have one of each with me at all time because my skin is different during some seasons! Though I almost always do the Normal/Dry!
below is information directly from the Mary Kay website.
- Removes complexion-dulling impurities
- Leaves skin clean, exfoliated and looking brighter
- Cleanses away make up without stripping skin of natural moisture
- Gentle enough for two washes daily leaving skin feeling soft and comfortable
3.) moisturizer
ahhhh. This is my favorite step! Not much more than a pea size amount and your entire face is feeling silky smooth, hydrated, and just completely fresh! I find myself using this a lot more during the summer time when I’m just getting back from the pool and feeling a little dry!
Nothing feels better than a silky smooth hydrated face right when you wake up, or right before getting into bed – right?!?!
This age minimizing moisturizer, just like the above product, comes in the same two skin types – Normal/Dry or Combination Oily. Like the cleanser, I always keep both types on hand for the season changes!
below is information directly from the Mary Kay website.
- Reduces the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles
- Contains Powerful antioxidants to help guard against free radical damage
- Hydrates for up to 10 hours
- Dermatologist-tested
- Suitable for sensitive skin
- Clinically tested for skin irritant and allergy
- Oil and fragrance free
- Hypoallergenic
- Non-Comedogenic (will not clog pores)
4.) under-eye cream
When I tell you, a little goes a long way, I mean it – like I actually think this saying was meant for this product, lol!! The tiniest dab underneath each eye to help with those bags that we never actually knew existed until we started carrying them, yeah?! Tip: dab, don’t wipe or spread, this underneath your eye!
Fun fact: did you know your ring finger has the lightest touch of all your fingers, so it’s important to dab with that finger to help conceal any imperfections while applying under-eye cream or concealer?!
uh-huh! It’s true! Google it 😛
This age minimizing/firming eye cream is quick to absorb and brightens up the under eye area while keeping it moisturized for up to 12 hours!
below is information directly from the Mary Kay website.
- Quick absorbing
- Keeps moisturized for up to 12 hours
- Skin feels intensely moisturized
- Smooth skin and improves its texture
- Requires minimal wait time to apply before male up
- Use twice a day for a full 24 hours of moisture
5.) night cream
This step is something I only do at night! I let my moisturizer and eye cream sit for about 4-5 minutes (I usually brush my teeth and my hair during this time) then apply the cream in an UPWARD circular motion right?? 😉
This age minimizing night cream boost antioxidants when applied before bed, letting you awake to a brighter, well rested, and healthier look in the morning!
below is information directly from the Mary Kay website.
- Helps soften the look of expression lines
- Helps skin look more firm and more youthful
- Skin feels soft and smooth/looks brighter
BONUS – eyelash serum
Steps 1-5 are steps that I have been doing since I was 13 … yes 13 (I told you I’m crazy!) But this bonus step is something I just started about three months ago and will NEVER not do this in my daily routine!!
Two months with this lash enhancing serum and I have completely fallen in love with the results. My eyelashes have n e v e r looked this good being all natural, it’s amazing. I actually just can’t believe it! It’s an actual must have if you ask me!!
* I not only swipe this across both eye lashes, but I swipe it across a small part of my eyebrow where I’m lacking some volume that I usually color in!*

The only regret I have with this product is not taking a ‘before’ picture!
I ordered the mini bottle to give it a try and to see if I liked it/it worked before buying the larger bottle. And I’m STILL on the same bottle .. which only means having that larger one will last me even longer (duh) and I’M.ALL.FOR.THAT!
I don’t know about you, but I’m ALL FOR the products that last a long time! Nothing is worse than loving something so much but having to purchase a new bottle of it every single month making it feel like you’re not getting your money’s worth. Something about a great product, lasting a lifetime makes you feel good about investing in yourself!
Disclaimer: I am not at all sponsored by Mary Kay nor do I make a commission from these links – I’ve been using this brand since I was 13 years old …(yup 13 lol) So I genuinely just have so much love for these products!
If you are interested in learning more about the products, I can definitely point you in the direction of my favorite gal – Just send me a quick email and we will get to chatting!
SO all I’m saying is find a product/brand that works for you – and stick with it!!!
Below is the Timewise bundle if you are interested. There’s one product in the bundle that I did not mention above. The day cream! I do love this product but I’m so use to and comfortable with my moisturizer in place of it, that I will use this about twice a week or so for that extra ‘oomph’
Mary Kay TimeWise Miracle Set 3D
Below are the other products that I use throughout the week that help with my skin care routine 🙂
silicone face exfoliating brush|liquid collagen|MaryKay deep cleansing charcoal mask|facial pore remover|MaryKay gel mask
.
AND FOR THE ICING ON THE CAKE!!!!
Protect your goodies!!!! This is the CUTEST and most affordable hanging travel bag that I’ve seen in a while!! There are MULTIPLE prints and colors – I’m usually a plain color type of gal – but there’s just something about these prints making me feel wild!
In this hockey life, we have lived in many places! Some with very large bathrooms, and some with literally just a sink … I’m SOO happy with this bag because I foresee more small bathrooms in my near future of expat living!!
Comment below on which one is your favorite and follow me on instagram to see which one I chose 😉
Thank you guys SO much for reading! I hope you were able to incorporate new things into your daily skin care routine! (especially step one, right?!!) I appreciate you all and I’ll see ya back here next week!

I have my mornig routine down but I struggle wiith my evening routine. I have never tried the Mary Kay cleansers. My skin is super sensitive. Do you think Mary Kay would be ok for sensitive skin? I would love to try some new products, I have yet to find one I love.
