HEY! LONG TIME NO CHAT!
Next on this weeks “life lately, catch me if you can” episode …
HA kidding… kinda! It’s official, we have MOVED to Canada! And when I say move, I mean “move move” for “good good”. No more packing up in 24 hours, no more trades, no more roommates, the whole shindig!!! Do you believe it? I haven’t quite yet – it might take some time 😛
With the BIG move, and finally having our wedding celebration back home with friends and family, life lately has been CAOTIC!! I haven’t posted a single thing to my instagram feed in 4 months. I haven’t written a blog post in 4 months. I know, I know – all things SO SERIOUS right?!? HAHA! Anyway, here we are ready to dive back in with a long overdue life update on where I am, what I’m doing, and what’s to come – grab a drink & buckle up!
white bodysuit | jeans | rattan lamp | sand + fog candle | console table | similar mirror
* I was extremely lucky to find this beautiful mirror at my local Tjmaxx in the states for only $20! Actual jackpot!! I linked a similar one above but it is not the exact one which is a shame! Check out your local tjmaxx, Marshalls, home goods, Kirklands etc for a similar mirror before splurging on one online! (always check measurements before being disappointed with your purchase!)
reminder: you can always follow me on the LikeToKnow. It APP if you see something you like and need the link!
Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada!
reason we are settling in regina
The reason I have it as “settling in Regina” and not “moving to Regina” is because with the hockey lifestyle, we moved A LOT! Like, a lot a lot. So it was never really new or surprising to friends and family when we were en route to a new place(s) every season. As you may have gotten a litttttttttle glimpse of it on my blog! But this, THIS, is the real deal. We have officially SETTLED in Regina. And before I go any further, yup… Regina is pronounced like vagina but with an R… imagine my face when being told this is where I was about to live. 🙂 Okay, moving on…
The time has come where Kevin has decided to officially retire from playing professional hockey. This decision was not easy on him. And still isn’t most days. This was something he’d been working so hard at since he could walk (typical Canadian LOL). With the state of the world, and the absolute unknown of how next season will look (and him nearly pushing thirty :P) – he decided it was time to hang them up! That being said, he was BEYOND fortunate to land an amazing job, before he had fully even decided to retire (take this kid to the casino, seriously!) It was a true “god works in mysterious ways” moment, and it couldn’t be passed up!
how we feel about it
I know you are all just DYING to know how I feel about this considering I’ve probably told you at some point in time that I will be living near the beach as soon as “hockey life” was over! LOL. Though this decision was different then many others we’ve made, It was something he wanted and had *also* worked really hard for, and that made it easy enough for me. Yes, it’s taking more time for me to adjust to our new norm and our new “what life will look like now” than it is for him, per usual. (I really envy that about him. His ability to take on a new challenge SO easily is a talent in itself) But in the end, I’m just being a little dramatic when I complain about the nearest Target being 4 hours away, or the nearest Chick-Fil-A being 8 (plus border crossings!)… HAHA yeah, I said a little.
Kevin jumped into this whole corporate world/desk life WAY better than we both had imagined. He’s already exceeded his new position requirements months in advance, made friends with his colleagues(while never stepping foot into an office yet), found the golf courses – lol of course, joined a baseball league, AND naturally found a hockey league for him to keep those blades sharp! Oh yeah, and ALREADY got a raise. I’m mean, seriously! It’s hard not to brag about him!
what we are most excited for
1.) Number one thing we are both most excited for, Is being able to sleep peacefully at night knowing he will not get traded, and have to move within HOURS of the phone call. It’s a whole different night when you have a “bad” work day in THIS world! And I’m sooooo here for it!
2.) We are also extremely excited to be more stable to make PLANS (my fave thing) for traveling, or dinner, or weekend getaways – idk literally anything. Like, the luxury of being able to purchase plane tickets form ONE location to another for our friends weddings NEXT summer is an actual great feeling that no one else would even understand haha. And with that, we’ve both have never explored the western part of Canada soooo BANFF HERE WE COME!
3.) We are excited to make this place our H O M E! Making friends, joining fun leagues, setting routines, creating traditions, getting to know our town, but most importantly – being together!
what we are most nervous for
1.) Obviously number one is being SOO far from our friends and family. Like VERY far! We are 22hrs from my hometown in Cincinnati, Ohio and 33hrs from his hometown in Quebec City, Quebec. That’s not exactly a quick drive or cheap flight home for the weekend!! But like everything else in this life of ours, we will make it work!
2.) WINTER. Kev is from Quebec so he’s no stranger to the snow and somewhat cold temps – me on the other hand…. I don’t know if I’ll make it. And that is NOT me being dramatic I swear. I’ve been told that on this side of Canada the snow isn’t necessarily bad but the temperatures are BRUTAL. My iPhone weather app agreed the day I looked in February and saw -50*F…. YEAHHHHHH!!!!!! So here I am contemplating being a snow bird at the fine age of 26! I’ll try to keep my complaining on a low this winter but I’m not making ANY promises!
3.) Small, but mighty.. not having our favorite restaurants and stores here! Chipotle and Chick-Fil-A being big number ones! They do have some alternatives but you just know nothing can or will compare! And then of course the stores., Target – like come on?? they don’t even ship here and thats a HUGE unfortunate situation. But then there are other places that do ship, and the cost of shipping to Canada is and arm, leg, and kidney. Very sad in my opinion, so thank god for my parents address in the states, and bringing empty suitcases on visits! 😛
now what?
NOW we simply enjoy “settling” and exploring our new city together. While I get to watch my husband dominate yet another aspect of his life, I will be patiently awaiting to start my own career! Being I’m American, I’m unable to legally work in Canada. Or live actually, so until I get my PR I will be making trips home every 6 months to “renew” my travel visa LOL. I have to wait for my permanent resident card/work visa to be approved and issued – which can take up to 13 months start to finish (equivalent to the green card in the US).
YESSSS, even though we are married I still cannot do ANYTHING in this country! (I can barely get into it right now actually! #2020/21 probs) I get this question A LOTTTTT. Since we are married, that only means that NOW I am able to APPLY for all of this. I do not just get to become a resident or citizen because I married one (same as the US.) Which actually shocks a lot of people (including me a few years ago)! It’s a very long, paperwork filled, and COSTLY process! SO until then, I will enjoy every LAST second of being an unemployed house wife 😉 (that is heavy sarcasm because if you know me you know I cannnnnnnnnot sit still)
I’ll be using this time to really focus on myself, finding my “new thing” in this life and getting to know this place I will be calling home for a longgg while (that’s new!), as the countdown to working the rest of my life is now beginning! And with that time, I hope to really dive deep into creating some super super fun content for you all <3 I mean, what could be more fun than hanging out with you, all day!! With all that being said, drop comments below – find me on instagram – email/DM me – anything, and let me know what you would like, or dislike to see from me as I transition into this new life adventure – or if you just want to chat about all the things, I’m up for that too!
