W H E E L I N G , W E S T V I R G I N I A
As many of you have experienced, 2020 has been one H.E(double hockey sticks) of a year *see what I did there* and though things are still very uncertain with this season, there’s finally a light at the end of the tunnel!
To be honest, I was hoping to be writing this post about some super cool, beautiful, amazing city in Europe. Though that’s not the case, in this moment I am not at all mad about it! I am grateful for many things that have come from this, and … like I said … a light at the end of the 2020 tunnel!
“West Virginia, Mountain Mama – take me home, country road!!”
you have to sing it right …
It’s no secret that Wheeling, West Virginia is no vacation spot. But if there is anything I learned throughout this lifestyle it’s that no matter where you are in the world, there will always be a ‘plus and minus’ with the location. There is always good, and there is always bad. But you get to choose which one you see more of. I know I know, big hockey knowledge over here… (+/-)
This post is all about finding the ‘PLUS’ that Wheeling, West Virginia has to offer and what I’m most excited for! Just another city we get to cross off our “been to/lived in” list right?! ;P
Let’s Do This!
places to eat
These are all obviously google, instagram, and Facebook searches until we actually move in, but I am determined to try them all (and will report back ;P) IF you’ve been here, or know someone who has, send them my way or please leave me a comment below – I want to hear about everything!!!
Later Gator – this place had amazing reviews on google and seems super fun. We’ve been over this before, I’m a VERY picky eater – so yes I’ve already looked at the menu to these places and so far so good (HAHA!!)
Pickles Eatery & Bar – y’all I am SOO excited for this one!!! This is number one on my list. I mean for crying out loud the name of the place is PICKLES!!! And we all know how I feel about my pickles. If you don’t know, it’s because you’re not hanging out with me on instagram! *boo*. It looks like a little hole in the wall – but you and I both know some of the BEST food comes from those places amiiiiright?!?! You’ll find me here on move in night that’s for sure 😛
Avenue eats & whisk bakery – this place was definitely on my list just after seeing how CUTE that patio was. There’s just something about cute patio restaurants that make you want to go despite the menu right? – menu looks BOMB tho! I’m also looking forward to Whisk bakery for a little birthday treat!
coffee shops
- The Market Cafe
- Wheeling Coffee & Spice Co.
- Wheeling Coffee Shoppe
- Mugshots
All of these had super great reviews and they were all so cute and quaint. I’m excited to see which one will be my go-to 😉 Of course, there is a Starbucks nearby and a Dunkin Donuts just across the bridge into Ohio!
BUUUUUUT there is also a …… TIM HORTONS!!!!! Now I don’t know for sure but if I had to guess, this is why Kevin chose Wheeling, West Virginia.
HAHA – totally kidding but when he found out he was even more excited!!
exploring // Wheeling, West Virginia
- Centre Market
- Olgebay Park & Resort Center
- Festival of Lights (Olgebay park) – so excited just thinking about it!!
- Grande Vue Park
- Heritage Trail System
- Wheeling Island (kev will probably visit the casino once.. or twice)
- Pittsburgh, PA – We’re only and hour away so on an off day, I intend to plan out an entire day to explore Pittsburgh. WITHOUT getting that yucky yellow and black on us 😉 (Talking Steelers! It’s a cinci thing)
shopping
Although online shopping is the way I roll, there’s nothing better than spending a day to yourself roaming the isles – amiright ladies?!?!
Other than the big mall in town, I’ve come across a few cute boutiques I’ll be spending my self care days roaming in!
- Ash & Tin Boutique
- Accents
- VC Wares
- Flower Market – super excited to visit this shop for some fresh flowers for our VERY FIRST PLACE LIVING ALONE TOGETHER. Shew, sorry for raising my voice there I got pretty excited 😉
Though I always love being home and spending summers in Quebec City, I am VERY eager to get things rolling and move in to our new place!! Which made this post super fun, seeing what life in Wheeling, West Virginia might be like. Though I’m POSITIVE once I’m there and off exploring, I’ll probably have much much more to share with you all!
I’m SO ready to spend every other day in the ice cold rink, talk about power plays, and fixing pregame meals. Said literally no wife ever except for all of us now during COVID – LOL!! Let’s lace up and drop the puck already!!
Here’s to a new season, new town, new team, new girls, and new adventures <3
Thank you all SO much for reading. I had so much fun learning about our new “hockey home” – I really hope you all enjoyed it!! AS ALWAYS, subscribe to be first in line to know when a new post comes out! Until next post 😛
XOXO -B
