5 relaxing, and simple, nighttime routine ideas you’ll love!
I strugggggggle with going to sleep. Once I’m asleep I’m good to go, but the actual act of falling asleep is SO hard for me. Sometimes it’s unbearable. I say unbearable because I CANNOT function the next day without the proper amount of sleep. Never could and probably never will (insert fear of one day having a child and being a working mother) So I’ve decided to try these five things for the past few months and really make a routine out of it to better my sleep and overall nighttime routine!
Sleep is SOOOO incredibly important for your overall health and well-being. Physically and mentally! Sleep allows your body to properly recharge so it’s extremely important you not only get the appropriate amount of sleep, but some good quality sleep!
Number one, of almost anything in life, is paying attention to what we are eating and drinking in a day! Yes, this also effects your sleeping habits! Crazy I know. And following that is physical activity! Make sure you’re moving your body in some type of way during the day! Aside from those lifestyle habits, sticking to a set routine can truly benefit your sleeping habits. So let’s set all those worries aside (because those will keep us up at night) and dig deep into a relaxing, and simple, nighttime routine!
5 relaxing, and simple, nighttime routine ideas
1| stretch / meditate
Set aside 5 to 10 minutes for yourself each night, YouTube soothing meditation sounds/videos, set a timer and just simply let go! I prefer to be laying flat on my yoga mat, but you can sit or stand, literally whatever works for you in letting go and relaxing for those few minutes!
2| nighttime skin care routine
This is a MUST!! So it can’t be easy to miss! Buuut if we want to take it a step further, on some days add in your favorite face mask! Mine is this charcoal face mask, I use it once sometimes twice a week! I’m a skincare freak so of course I have a post about my nighttime skincare routine for you!!
3| chamomile tea
This has become a relaxing favorite of mine! Something so simple, yet so calming! I like to drink my tea with a little bit of honey, while watching a movie or episode about an hour before bed! This is also when I usually take a melatonin gummy if needed! I don’t always take a gummy, but sometimes I just know that I will need it and it’s better for me to take it at this hour because once I get past a certain time I won’t take one. It will have me feeling groggy and more tired in the morning if taken too late!
4| set goals for the next day
This is something I do every single night, and it help immensely with the “mind racing” aspect of the night. If I schedule it out to a T, there will be nothing I have to continuously think and ponder about. (At least that’s what I strive for, does it always happen. no. I will most definitely start thinking about some dumb thing I once said to one of my coaches 10+ years ago and hope she has forgotten all about it by now…. yeah) But either way, waking up to a set schedule is also so refreshing because you already know exactly what you need to get done, and by when!
5| unplug
Okay, THIS ONE is so so hard for me. Like I mentioned above I have trouble sleeping, so naturally if I cannot sleep I will gravitate toward my phone. Not only will it NOT help the sleeping situation, it is soo bad for the eyes, and the brain and just not the play!! Plugging your phone in on the other side of the room is huge with not looking at it all night and also with getting up in the morning because it forces you to get out of bed to turn that annoying alarm off! Boom, two birds one stone! Who else can hit the snooze button for hours on end and not even know it…
TRUTH BE TOLD
These all may seem extremely cliche – but how many do you actually do constantly? Exactlyyyyyy. The key is to start small and REALISTIC!!! Nothing here sounds groundbreaking, but if you gradually do all of these each night, you’ll be a pro at sleeping 😛 I hope you enjoyed, and were able to take something from this post and use it towards your nighttime routine goals!
